When I’m looking for a new painting, I’m usually drawn to a challenge. This project was exactly that.
The inspiration was a photo of a herd of zebras grazing with their backs to the viewer, while one zebra stood facing forward. To me, it symbolized how so many people follow the crowd, while only a few remain aware of what’s happening around them.
I started the painting in acrylics, but the finished piece lacked the depth and richness I wanted. Switching to oils brought the colors to life and added the dimension I was looking for.
The first image is the inspiration photo. The second is my completed oil painting on canvas.
